Kelly Osbourne has opened up about her strained relationship with her older sister, Aimee Osbourne, revealing that the two have become estranged and that she does not expect their relationship to be repaired. Kelly discussed the family rift during an appearance on the We Need to Talk podcast hosted by Paul C. Brunson.
Kelly explained that she and Aimee have always been dramatically different personalities. Describing them as “oil and water,” she said their relationship never developed into the traditional close bond she had hoped to have with an older sister. Kelly also said she and her brother, Jack Osbourne, were particularly close while growing up.
Aimee famously chose not to participate in the family’s reality series The Osbournes, which aired on MTV from 2002 to 2005. Kelly said she did not want to speak for Aimee about that decision, emphasizing that she respects her sister’s privacy. Aimee has previously explained that she wanted to protect her private life and establish her own creative identity away from her family’s television fame.
Kelly nevertheless said she felt that Aimee had distanced herself from the rest of the family. She acknowledged that she has carried resentment over never having the kind of older-sister relationship she wanted and described that absence as one of the most difficult parts of her life.
The relationship appears to remain firmly distant. Kelly said she respects and accepts Aimee despite their differences, but also explained that she does not want people in her life who, in her account, try to change her or treat her negatively.
Her comments offer a rare glimpse into a complicated family dynamic that has existed largely away from the public eye. While Kelly has spoken openly about her life for decades, she made clear that Aimee’s decision to maintain greater privacy is something she continues to respect—even as their personal relationship remains fractured.
